This is new music for Vincy Mas 2014! The song is entitled "Party Hardcore" with Skinny Fabulous on lead vocals featuring Diplo (Major Lazer). The production was done by Alex Kubiyashi Barnwell, Wesley Diplo Pentz; the Vincy massive are celebrating and believe that this song is destined to become a hit! Then there are others (like this writer) who has to smile and wonder "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?"
Yes I asked, "What the hell is going on here?". Earlier this year when carnival dawned on Trinidad and Tobago there was much criticism regarding the same style of music delivered by Trinidad artists. Now that we have 'one of their own' delivering the same style of vibe... it is all good!
Don't you just love the way Caribbean people 'flip the script'! Well... what the hell this is Carnival time for the Vincy massive and we know that carnival is bacchanal. Listen to the track and let us know if this song will take hold in a country that boasts of creating 'Ragga Soca'... at least their concept or version of a category of music coined in Trinidad and Tobago...
Press Release:
Major Lazer is a popular and diverse global DJ project founded by American Dj and producer Diplo, along with Dj's Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. Major Lazer is known for some of the biggest tracks in the international music industry such as "Paper Planes" by MIA and "Girls" by Beyonce. He has also produced music for some of the Caribbean's dancehall superstars; "Pon De Floor" by Vybz Kartel, "Watch Out For This" by Busy Signal, and has recently entered the Soca arena, collaborating with Vincentian producer Alex 'Kubiyashi' Barnwell to create two distinct and next-level songs with two of Soca's biggest superstars; "Sound Bang" by Machel Montano and "It's A Carnival" by Bunji Garlin.
Major Lazer have once again struck gold, this time with St. Vincent's own musical superstar and ambassador, Gamal 'Skinny Fabulous' Doyle. Major Lazer and Kubiyashi have teamed up again to breathe life into a production of infectious head bopping, chest thumping beats, fashioned into a hard hitting song by the lyrical content of Skinny Fabulous, which aptly portrays a Caribbean message. Party Hardcore, sounds like nothing you have ever heard but its infectious beat and lyrical content will certainly put you in the mood to do exactly that as it says
Party Hardcore is the result of a fire sparked between Skinny Fabulous and the Major Lazer project in the heat of the Trinidad International Soca Monarch, where Major Lazer was highlighted in a few shows. This connection is no doubt the beginning of a relationship set to transport Vincentian music further into international waters.
Speaking on his experience working on the project with Major Lazer, Skinny Fabulous stated that it was a bit surreal due to the fact that the opportunity presented itself at a time when he was hyped and ready to explore new avenues. He also revealed his hopes that the song would provide more international recognition and exposure for his craft and his country. Kubiyashi was simply thrilled to finally produce a local song on the Major Lazer record.
This song is the one of Skinny Fabulous' newest releases since the Trinidad International Soca Monarch. Party Hardcore, sounds like nothing you have ever heard but though it is outside the musical realm of our own, Soca music, it fittingly perches on the onset of our carnival celebrations, describing and endorsing the culture and attitude that is Vincy Mas.
