Just about everyone one who knows me and my posting of music tracks on TriniZagada always ask, "what is the latest out of Trini"? This is easily understood since Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival is on the horizon and new music is jumping out just about every day. However, we have to be cognizant of the fact that we are part of the Caribbean basin and there are artists out there producing and releasing new music for 2014. Today SKN (St. Kitts and Nevis) is in the spotlight with this offering from the very popular Shakki. The song is entitled "I Am Trouble".
I listened to the song and thought that too much was going on with the music and vocals at the beginning of the song. Shakki's voice sounds a little bit overwhelmed by the music. The music has a nice deep bass and drum-set vibe with an 'open/airy tunnel sound'. I had some issues with her diction on the track but I am sure that just about anyone from Saint Kitts and Nevis will understand every word of that song. I have to say that is a cultural thing and the same can be said for vocals from various islands (including Trinidad and Tobago) heard elsewhere.
So what do I think about the song? It surely has a nice carnival feting vibe. It would have sounded even better if I was able to understand (easily/without effort) what she was actually saying in the song. This song gets our approval but I don't know if this will be aired on the radio stations in Trinidad and Tobago. I do hope that Shakki's management send the song to the radio stations in Trinidad and Tobago. This is not just to benefit Shakki but also to let the Trinidadians know and hear the talent that they are missing out on from the rest of the Caribbean region.
