The original track has an identity crisis and was on the border line of R&B and Soca (the song was released as a Soca track) but this latest rebirth of the song has me thinking North America!
I listened to the song and it felt totally different; to be honest is has an R&B feel with a West Indian twist to it. The singing style shifts from US R&B to Caribbean but in general it felt like is shed off any semblance of its Soca roots.
Maybe, just maybe, the production is meant to go in a different direction and penetrate the North American market. There wasn't a press release attached to the music blast that I received. I have to think that this is a deliberate attempt to place the song on the North American market. In terms of Caribbean music style and the original song this song has lost its Soca music identity.
