Last night, at the National Stadium in Grenada, Blacka Dan won the Groovy Soca competition while Boyzie emerged as the winner of the Power Soca competition when the results were announced early this morning.
Did the show live up to the hype for you? Well, whatever your thoughts are about the show last night keep in mind that the judges had the final say in a competition where every on looker is a judge who knows who won and who was cheated! Of course we knew that the Power Soca Category would have a new Monarch because Lavaman decided not to compete this year and defend the crown he won last year. However, in the Groovy Soca category everyone wanted to see and hear if Shortpree could repeat as champion again. In the end the very popular song "Whole Day We Jammin" wrested the title from Shortpreee who eventually placed third. In second place was Scholar who almost delivered with "Cannot Deliver".
In the Power Soca segment the competition Boyzie rose to the occasion and took the crown from a true detective "Inspectore" who surprised everyone and place second. There was a tie for third place with Lil Vaughn who sang "Charge Up" and Lil Natty & Thunda who sang a song titled "Wuss Wayz".
One interesting thing to note here is that both songs sung by the winners were produced by Xpert Productions! Mr. Xpert has to be one very happy and very proud individual today. He works out of Carriacou and I am sure that next year he will be one of the most 'in demand' producer not only for Grenadian artists but for artists throughout the Caribbean region... congratulations are extended to Mr. Xpert from Trinizagada.
