Trini Soca Dominates Lucian Carnival | Saint Lucia 2013

I was browsing Islandmix today (a site that I have been officially banned from posting to by Amare Triniboi) and saw two posts by Lucian citizens that pointedly chastised the "Disk Jocks" in Saint Lucia for not properly promoting Lucian Soca. The fact remains that, according to the posters, Lucian Carnival was dominated by Soca music from Trinidad and Tobago!

I found it interesting that they commented that they took Lucian music that they purchased or got in NYC back to Saint Lucia and most of the people who heard the music did so for the very first time. Now that is very interesting because it means that the radio stations have not been playing the music to popularize the songs released for Carnival 2013. That is a disservice to the music producers and the artists who depend their music popularity to be booked in the various fetes/events for the carnival season.

Now that which is bad for the progress of Lucian Soca bodes well for music produced/done by Trinidadian artists. There have been so many complaints about Trinidad and Tobago's Soca but TnT's music still dominated the Lucian Carnival festival for 2013! It was reported that the fetes, J'ouvert celebrations and the parades of the bands had a healthy dose of Trinidad Soca.

After all is said and done the Lucians need to do some introspection and decide what is the best course to take to uplift their home grown talent. If they don't then music from other Caribbean territories will continue to dominate their festival. It should be noted that if their artists can't make it at home then they don't stand a chance of being heard in the other Caribbean territories!
