Saint Lucia news online has reported that the reigning Party Soca Monarch will not defend his title this year because of health issues. However, the press release does state the following: "He will honour his commitments to the private events who have already engaged him".
This is unusual that a person who is sick can honor the events that would really put a drain on his health but not compete in the one show that does not impact his health as would the fete shows!
Is there another issue that we are unaware of that has caused this withdrawal? If, indeed he is sick, then he should withdraw from all events to safeguard his health. After he is well again then he should resume work. What is your opinion? The following is the press release from his management team.

OaktreeZ Inc, the entity responsible for the talent management of Kwency Griffith aka Mr. Pringles aka Superman HD, the reigning Party Soca Monarch of St. Lucia, wishes to inform the St. Lucia Carnival Stakeholders and all the necessary entities, including the general public, of his formal withdrawal from the 2013 St. Lucia Party Monarch Competition.
His health has become increasingly questionable and is currently undergoing continuous test and treatment. His managers, producers and some key persons involved in his camp, have determined that despite his reluctance, the demand and intensity of competition would only worsen his situation. He will honour his commitments to the private events who have already engaged him however his 2013 presentation will be too traumatic on his body.
We regret this situation and when Kwency’s health is stabilized he can continue to be the entertainer St. Lucia loves. In the meantime, we will continue to do our part in making this 2013 festival the best it can be.
