Drink Drunk is the newly released song from Tallpree that features the one and only Slinger Francisco. It is always good to hear the birdie sing and the fact that Tallpree has featured him on a song released for Spice Mas 2013 makes this release a sentimental favorite. Drink Drunk can be considered a continuation of the Mighty Sparrow's song Drunk and Disorderly that was released in 1972 on his 'Hotter Than Ever' album. Drunk and Disorderly is a classic however, the lyrical content of this one (Drink Drunk) leaves much to be desired.
The song is sung by two born Grenadians and produced by Andrew "Hitz" Philip also a born Grenadian. This is Grenadian Soca done and released for Spice Mas. It does not matter that both Sparrow and "Hitz" have connections to Trinidad and Tobago... this is not Trinidad Soca; this is Grenada Soca and by extension Caribbean Soca. I reiterated the Grenadian aspect because some people are also labeling the music Trini Soca because Sparrow is on the track and because he spent most of his life living in Trinidad and carried a Trinidad and Tobago passport! OK, I hope this puts an end to the Trinidad connection to the song.
So what can be said about the song? Well, first of all it is good to hear Sparrow on a newly released song. Secondly, it bodes well for the Grenadian public at large and the impact that both singers have on Grenadian music (it does not matter that all of Sparrow's accomplishments took place in Trinidad). However, the song itself has nothing special of note!
Hold on now, I did not say that I disliked the song, it is just that it is mediocore! This song may have two very famous Grenadian born singers and a well known Grenadian producer but that does not mean that this song is going to be a monster hit across the Caribbean. It has its sentimental value and that may cause some 'extra' airplay on radio but it has nothing special that will make it a hit song!
