I listened to this song and initially thought it sounded muddled but after listening for the first minute I decided that I like it... why? I liked it because it had me 'grooving in my chair as I listened and wrote this post'. I don't know what these young singers have with all these songs about rum. I remember the sayng that every Chutney song was about rum but it looks like these young Soca singers have embraced the draw of rum lyrical content.
The bottom line is that this song will have you moving and grooving, wuking and winin' and that can only translate into fun, fun, fun and more fun!
Lyrics:
All things considered it is a jovial fun song. Don't expect any inspirational content unless you are inspired to wine, wuk and generally have fun.
Vocals:
Not one but two vocalists on this track. The lead vocalist dis a good job and his harmonizing counterpart complimented him (lead vocalist) well. I like this combination.
Music/Production:
If you are in a party and this song is playng and you have a few (drinks) this music is sweet. However, there is no clear distinction between the rhythm instruments on the tracl... it sounds like one serious jam session taking place.
Replay Worthiness/Lasting Appeal:
This one will be played in fetes for sure. However, in terms of radio play I am not sure if it will be heard much. Promotion, promotion and more promotion will be needed to get this one out there. At the time of this posting the song received 94 plays since it was posted on ilandmix yesterday. Not bad considering the amount of music that is released daily on that site.
The bottom line this is a good effort by a young artiste. There are five songs listed for this artiste on islandmix. If you like what you hear then try his other offerings at this link: islandmix.com/Kiko Dan.
