Echo | Sanelle Dempster | Trinidad Carnival 2013

Right on the heels of  her first release for Carnival 2013 (Have Yuh Fun) comes this second offering from Sanelle Dempster titled 'Echo'.  This one was also produced by Terrence James but was written by Anton Bruce. This song has a really sweet Soca rhythm with very relaxing musical waves. However, I did not like the somewhat 'rap notes' that Sanelle attempted in this song but when she sings everything feels just right.

I don't think that this one is on the same level as her first effort for carnival 2013, 'Have Yuh Fun' but it good to see that she is moving ahead full steam ad bringing new music. The more music she releases the more she will be talked about and the volume of work will eventually have impact on the people who determine what is and isn't played on the radio.

As I mentioned before Echo does not continue in the same vein of 'Have Yuh Fun' but it does have a good feel. The singers voice and the music can and will grow on the listener. The only thing I don't like about  this effort is the 'hold yuh rag and wave yuh flag and come to TnT and wave it around' rap attempt in the song. This is a good second song for the season.

Lyrics:
This is a celebratory lyric effort written by Anton Bruce. The writer embraces the fun side of living in Trinidad and Tobago. You can feel the magic of culture of the people written into the lyrics of the song as Sanelle sings and invites people to TnT.

Vocal Performance:
Sanelle can sing! She has a silky voice and does a very credible job with this song except for the short bit of rap in the song... I was not convinced and it just did not feel right/authentic/natural when I listened to the song.

Music/Production:
This is a solid Soca music production done by Terrence James. I love the speed chosen for this track; it compliments Sanelle's singing style.

Replay Worthiness/Lasting Appeal:
I guess one can easily ascertain that this category is very subjective and prone to the whims and fancies of radio show producers. One man's meat is another poison. If they like it they will play it. This one, in the big scheme of things, will get lost in the MP3 music pile. I do hope that people take a second listen to this track because Sanelle has so much to offer.
