Doh Do Meh Dat | Mike Jones | Trinidad Carnival 2013

'Right off the bat' I liked the way this song started musically but was not initially enchanted with the singer's voice. Then I did something I don't usually do when writing about a song... I listened to this song three times. My method is to listen to a song and write about the song immediately - first impression is what matters with me. However, I went on to listen to the song over and over again. There is something special about this song - I got hooked.
Here is the thing, I like the music on this track, I like the pace of the music but remained feeling that the vocals could have been better. Who is Mike Jones? I really don't know and I don't have a body of work to make a comparison with this one. Damn, let me listen to this song again... it is growing on me.

Now you get the picture that there is something that I like about this song; yes I like the music but was initially a little hesitant about the singers voice but, in the end, I came around to give this song the thumbs up. OK, so here is my take on the song.

Lyrics:
OK, thumbs up to Dale, Emanuel and Patrice! I like the idea for the song and got hooked with "body in motion, that is performance, doh do meh dat, yuh cyar do dat"... yes that is sweet!

Vocal Performance:
There are moments in this song that I was not 'hooked' by the singers voice but I was eventually swayed to his vocalization... I guess the voice grew on me!

Music/Production:
The key to a good music production is whether or not it get you to move! Yes, this song passed the test with flying colors. I love the music on this song!

Replay Worthiness/Lasting Appeal:
The more you listen to this song the more you will like it! I like the opening sequence and the way it faded away... what it finished! Rewind and come again!

I know the singer of this song may not like some of the things I said, especially about his vocals, but I just don't just like the song... 'heard dis nah' - I love his song! The music hooked me, the horns fascinated me and  the lyrics were well done... Mike I like your song - I really do!
