The 50th Anniversary Independence Chutney Soca Monarch Competition is scheduled to take place at Skinner's Park, San Fernando on Saturday August 18th 2012. Ten contestants were selected from 24 semi finalists at a show that was held at the Gulf City Shopping Complex. This finals is a production of 'SOUTEX' in collaboration with the Ministry Of The Arts & Multiculturalism.
The finals will also feature JMC 3Veni, Melobugz Music Machine, Dance Groups. Tassa drumming and the featured 10 finalists. This should be a grand production and would rival or surpass the production of the TUCO produced Calypso Independence Competition
The news coming out of Trinidad is that Kenneth Supersad topped all comers in the preliminary and semi final rounds. If he continues with is current run then he should end up as champion. However, on the night of the finals anything can happen and we may have someone else pulling the 'proverbial rabbit out of the hat' to take the crown. Information regarding the songs sang is difficult to obtain and the press is not helping. I had to do some serious searching to present the information below but I am yet to learn the name of the song that Kenneth Supersad sang.
The winner of this competition will walk away with the winners purse of $500,000. The second amount is $250,000 and the third prize place will receive $150,000. The others in the competition will receive $50,000 for appearing in the finals.
