The Only Way (To Exist Together) | Johnny King

"Together We Aspire. Together We Achieve"... those are the 'Watch Words' given to us by the 'Father Of The Nation', the late Dr. Eric Eustace Williams, on the day Trinidad and Tobago became an independent nation. Today it feels like the watch words given by the founding father are meaningless!

This year we celebrate our jubilee celebration of that historic day, August 31, 1962 but now we find ourselves in a very disturbing situation. During the period of rule under the PNM (People's National Movement) administration there was always racial undertones that affected the society. However, there was peace and even thought people were unhappy about the racial divide most of the talk took place behind closed doors. That is not the case today. On our 50th anniversary celebration we have a government, other than the PNM holding office. That government is dominated by people of East Indian ancestry. In other words, like it or not, we have an Indian party in control of the country. The talk on blogs, comments on the news papers and chat boxes are not good. The ugly race card has come into play and it does not bode well for the future of the country.

So what is the answer? Well, the African sector of the society feels that they were duped and now have to find a way out... a new party/different government needs to be installed. They want the PP government out of office but the current state of affairs of the PNM is no guarantee that they could win the next general elections. This sentiment (disappointment) goes across the board and even many East Indians are dissatisfied with the performance of the present administration. We are in trouble with the race card being dealt (on both sides) making people on both sides of the divide unhappy, confused and even demoralized at the same time. Most people feel like they are caught in the Matrix with no way out!

We have a lot to think about and our future (the future of the nation) depends on peace between the major races... Indians and Africans need to unite! Just remember that divided we must fall but united we will always stand tall - paraphrased from  the song attached to this post. Johnny King told us in song that 'Unity' is 'The Only Way' (to build up TnT)! Let's take a listen to his advice in song now.
