The St. Lucia Power Soca Monarch Competition started off without a bang... it just did not start at the scheduled 8:00 pm and was delayed to 9:00 pm but still did not start as scheduled. This was a big disappointment for many viewers around the World. It is true that nothing happens before its time but then again if you schedule a show to start at a certain time then that should be the case! The show should start on time! This type of complacency is typical for the Caribbean region and can be considered the Achilles heels of many promotions in the region.
The video feed started at 9:30 pm but there was so much talk and a real attempt to delay the start that they went into the crowd and interviewed the audience until the first guest artiste came on to start the show. The show announcers delayed the show until 10:05 pm to bring on the first guest artiste. We should be thankful that the show was streamed free of charge but it should be noted that there were other problems including a poorly lit stage.

In other words the art of singing went out the door. Another thing I noticed taking place in all these competition is the artist's taking time out from the singing and performing to talk to the audience - I simply don't understand how this helps the performance. My main peeve is the shouting and lack of controlled singing performances!
