Nintus is the new St. Lucia Calypso Monarch for 2012

Last night (07/15.2012), the Calypso  Monarch Competition took place at the Beausejour Cricket Cround in  St.Lucia. There was equality of the sexes on stage with five women competing with and against five men but the big question that needed to be answered was would there be another Queen Monarch or would a King rise to the occasion and rule the carnival for 2012?

The competition started and the first round of songs was uneventful but then the second round came and the singers rose to the occasion. It was classic calypso and the crowd was captivated by the efforts of the singers. Last year the Monarch was captured by female Calypsonian Menelle. Tonight nine contestants sang to dethrone the reigning Monarch Menelle.

The show was a good one and had a lot more class than the Party Soca Monarch show that took place the previous night at the same venue. The stage lighting remained the same and needs to have a major improvement next year - it was severely lacking! Some people won't like what I have to say next but the singing and songs came across as if it was a show taking place in Trinidad. I know people want to brand their music but for this show no one can say anything that could convince me differently.

Tonight, after two rounds of competition, the announced winner of the St. Lucia Calypso Monarch Competition was Nintus.
1. Nintus  792 Points (New Calypso Monarch for St. Lucia 2012)
2. Blaze     752 Points
3. Walleigh 738 Points
4. Menelle  733 Points

Most Humorous Calypso went to Blaze who sang "Six For A Nine".
Best Nation Building Song went to Walleigh who sang "Not The Three Little Pigs".
