Duane O'Connor Wins Trinidad's Calypso Monarch Title!

It was a night of great expectations... some lived up to the moment while others fizzled and fell on the wayside. From the onset it was clear (from my point of view) that Kurt Allen, Karene Asche and Cro Cro were the leaders in the first round. The frustrating part of the session, for those of us viewing via an Internet feed was that CTV was broadcasting a delayed feed.
The surprise of the night was on a delayed CTV feed but WACK radio had it live and in real time. The results surprised everyone. Duanne O'Connor was the surprise winner for many but I was told during the semi final round by Mr. Kenny Phillips that Duane won outright at Skinner's Park and would win the crown on Sunday night. What a prediction! Not only has KMPMUSIC done it but Kenny's son Kasey has led the way wit music produced by Precision Productions. It looks like we now have a family music dynasty in the making.

The WACK radio feed was four performances ahead of the television feed. However, WACK had issues with the feed with broadcast then no broadcast it was a stop and start situation - very frustrating at times. However, we are extremely thankful that WACK Radio was able to provide the broadcast.

Then came the second round and the song that would determine who will take the crown. Kurt Allen was the first to strike with a new song - it was alleged!  I don't think it came across well but then again we were listening with a stop and start feed via the radio Internet link. He attacked the politicians with his offering but I did not think it came across well. The battle was on  and the singers all performed well but for some reason I thought the 'big singers' left the door open for someone to come and steal the show.

The singers came on strong but the show lacked lustre and did not feel like a serious competition. Everyone was judging tonight and we all had Karene Asche, Kurt Allen and Cro Cro in the top three positions.   However, the real judges would have the final say about the performances tonight. Twelve contestants and 24 songs later the winner was announced. The winner and 'Newly Crowned Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival 2012 came as a surprise to many but I am sure Mr. Kenny Phillips of KMPMUSIC was smiling and clapping loudly as his pick, a song he produced at KMP MUSICLABS, won it all. Congratulations to Mr. Duane O'Connor the new Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago.
