This is a refreshing change in pace and music style. Kenny Phillips from KMP Music Labs forwarded this song to me. I am very appreciative that Kenny sent the music!
Now one of my favorite singers is on this track... I really like to listen to Ziggy Ranking and his style of singing. I was curious about how this combination of talent with The T&TEC Gayatones would play out. I knew that Dilena Diamond could bring it and was anxious to listen to the song. I was not disappointed!
Now you must understand that I have been listening to music from all sectors of the Caribbean region and the fact that the music of Trinidad is trending towards what someone referred to me today as "Fusion Music".
I was pleasantly surprised to get something that is new but something that also had a familiar sound to it... yes you can take the old rhythms and bring it to the future but keep it 'sounding familiar' and I like that.. You can listen to the song here and judge for yourself. The song is 'musical' and has color to it... there is a call and response between the lead singer and the back up singers. There is a traditional calypso baseline in the song with a funked up Soca beat and Ziggy adding a Dancehall style with his vocals. Now this is not a traditional Soca song... As a matter of fact I would not call it Soca at all! I guess it can be called 'a "Fusion Song" after all has been said and done (we shall wait and see) - right Kenny!?!?
