"Dusk Till Dawn" | Shurwayne Winchester

We begin 2012 with Shurwayne Winchester's latest release titled "Dust Till Dawn". This song has been released as a Groovy Soca track. However, this song goes beyond the Groovy Soca Category.

I don't see this song having any impact on the Groovy Soca Monarch competition if the music production remains the same. Soca? I don't think so, but that is what they say it is... this one has a more new age sound to it and could find it's way on the European music scene easily. However, as a Carnival song, I don't think this will have any impact for Carnival 2012 unless, of course, something is done to the production to bring in a more traditional 'Carnival feel'.

If this is not done, and this song is used for the competition, the crowd will be standing around and watching the performance on stage - this will not do anything for crowd impact and the judges will abide with the will of the audience.

Now don't go away thinking that I don't like the song! Far from that... I really like the song and it is this type of production that will live on after the carnival is over. When the majority of shameless radio stations in Trinidad and Tobago turn on their 'Soca Switch' on Ash Wednesday this song, "Dusk Till Dawn" stands a chance of getting some airplay.

Lyrically you have to like what Shurwayne had done here; Vocally the track is very sound. I think this is one of Shurwayne's best songs in terms of his voice control and the fact I can say that I can feel this music in my soul. There is nothing special about the music but the combination of the music and singer made his song different and that is a good sign. This is the toughest assignment for all singers in Trinidad and Tobago - Replay Worthiness and lasting appeal. This has nothing to do with how good or not so good a song is but has everything to do with the 'Swithch' that takes place from Ash Wednesday! Thumbs up to Shurwayne for this song!

Production Notes:
