The cry from Patch is to Stagger for Carnival 2012. Staggering could become a dance to prance to when you hear this new release from "Patchland" simply called, "Stagger"! Watch out because it is time to do the Stagger. Now if you drink too much 'sours' you will be staggering but we would prefer that you "Stagger" because you had too much sweet music in your head that makes you want more and more (of this nice Carnival feeling). Ok, I know what you might be saying, "this is just another rum song", so why is Santiwah promoting this one? This one has the hook my friends... just watch it explode!
Having said that, I have to say that this song made me smile while listening to it. Something about it is funny and at the same time likable... very likable indeed. "Rum doh have no vitamins... drink yuh rum and stagger, stagger stagger" - isn't that so true and damn funny too! Now, I don't advocate promoting any song that encourages drinking rum and, in the past, I have been very critical of Chutney Soca lyrics that promote rum drinking. However, this song is really catchy and fluid. Ha, Yes I said fluid!
Can't you see yourself on Carnival Monday (for J'ouvert or late in the afternoon as the sun is setting) staggering and singing stagger, stagger, stagger and more staggering as the sunlight wanes into the sunset? Come on, don't be ah prude and leave prudence to cuss and complain at home. This is Carnival and it is Carnival music with a staggering twist.
If this one does not catch on or catch fire on the airwaves, I will be very surprised. Every year there is one song that comes along with a hook that everyone just gravitates to and just like the hook in the song Trini (as in "I'm ah Trini"), I have a good feeling that for Carnival 2012 the chant and hook will be, "Stagger".
Now just remember I said and that you read it first on Trinizagada. Yes, I am saying that this will be the first big hit for Carnival 2K12. It will become a hit not because of good lyrics or even great music but because of the hook. Sometimes that is all it takes to succeed in the business of Carnival. This one comes to you by way of the site jam2vibes/Stagger/Patch. I don't know how they will get away with promoting this as a Groovy Soca track but that is the category they have placed this one. What do you think? Will it be a hit or will it miss the mark?
