It was an uneventful morning traveling to work on the M5 Bus along Riverside drive this morning. The view of the Henry Hudson River, on a beautiful Summers day in New York City, set the stage for my 'ah ha' moment that started my day. The views, the ride and then there was the music! I have to remark that there is Soca and then there is "Soca"! Lol, well let me explain what I am getting at...
Soca music today, has evolved taking in influences from various genres of music. It is not the same as Soca during the formative years. During the early period of Soca, the Calypso influence was prominent. The singers style of singing had a definite Calypso style but the music carried the beat of the new music... the vibe of Soca.
So there I was, traveling to work and taking in the views of the Henry Hudson River while scrolling through my MP3 music files,and then it hit me... Classic Soca vibes mixed by Dotcomm Sounds (my 'ah ha' moment)! Today this style of music is labeled "Vintage Soca" but I would venture to state just sweet Soca . There is the answer to the second part of my earlier statement... and then there is "Soca"!
I was taken back to a time when Soca music sounded so different and one may venture to add was so sweet. Having rekindled the feel and love for what is now called 'Old School Soca' I wanted to share the music that put a smile on my face this morning. Anyone who considers themselves part of the 'carnival culture' and appreciate 'purist vibes' will love this mix.
