Humorous Calypso Contest/TUCO | T'dad & Tobago 2013

Last night on Wack Radio 901 Fm Lutalo Masimba aka Brother Resistance, the President of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO), commented on the Humorous Calypso competition for 2013. The Humorous Calypso Competition was not part of the recently concluded Carnival. A concerned young caller to the program posed a question to the President about the competition wanting to know if TUCO dropped the competition completely.
Brother Resistance had good news for the young man and Calypso lovers listening to the program - the show is in the works and will take place this year! As the program progressed Karega Mandela, who is the public relations officer of the calypso organization (PRO of TUCO), called the program and gave some details regarding the plans for the competition.

Here is a summary of the plans/dates:
The various calypso tents of the country will each submit the names of two Calypsonians to compete in the show. These singers from the tents would go directly to the semi final round of the competition.

There will be a preliminary round of competition to help garner a total of 26 singers for the semi final round of competition. This preliminary round will take place at the Mas Camp Pub on March 2, 2013.

The semi final round of competition date is on March 16, 2013. However, the venue for this show has not yet been confirmed. Two venues are under consideration for this stage of the competition: NAPA San Fernando and/or Palms Club.

The finals will take place on April 6, 2013 in Port-of-Spain. The venue for that event/show will take place at either Queeen's Hall  or the Grand Stand in the Savannah in Port-Of-Spain.

No mention was made of the prize money for this show but it is obvious that TUCO has not finalized the venues or prize money/prize structure for this show. Maybe they should do things a little differntly and host the semi finals in Port-of-Spain and the finals in San Fernando.

For those who enjoyed the past calypso season rest assured that more is to come but this time it is not serious, it is not political but it could be scandalous. Then again it is the humorous side of the art form and every thing can come into play. This is a show that will surely put a smile on your face. Let's hope that this one received the sponsorship needed to help make it a success.
