Calypso Monarch Finalists 2013 | Calypso Fiesta Results

The Show lived up to the billing and it was a Calypso Fiesta that saw Skinner's Park packed to capacity even though the early turn out was a little dissapointing. The singers did their thing and just about 7:57 Trinidad Time (6:57 Eastern Time) the final contestant ended the semi final competition. Then came the wait for the results.

The reigning monarch, Duane O'Connor is ready and waiting to defend his crown on 'Terrific Thursday' February 7, 2013. This year the Calypso show has cut the navel string that for decades remained a part of the Dimanche Gras Show. Now they have their own show - this is the start of something big and hopefully it will eventually blossom into something Fantastic like the Soca Monarch Competition.

The eleven singers who qualified for the finals will come up against a Monarch who has prepared for this final and has two song that he feels will help him keep his crown intact. His song are “Seeking Sparrow’s Advice” and “Building the Wall”.

The 'Baptism Of Fire' for Skinner's Park aka 'they pelt yuh with toilet paper' went to 'The Original DeFosto' and 'Sugar Aloes'; this time they waved the toilet paper instead of throwing it on the stage. These are two seasoned veterans in the business and it (toilet paper treatment) may have more to do with politics than performance. The finalists have been chosen and a date has been set when Duane O'Connor will have to defend his crown. Is he ready? Are you ready? Let the show begin!

How Chalkdust does make it EVERY year?
Glad to see Pink Panther get in. WE know, of course that it's the 2nd song that will make the difference in the final.

I guess some people are looked at as royalty... 40 point for lyrics, 40 for melody and 20 for presentation... go figure.
