DSrIDDIM | District 6 Recording Studio | Trinidad 2013

I previously did a post on a song titled 'Wine Up' by Tammy Dillon; the song was one of four new releases on the DSrIDDIM. I am sure there is a hidden meaning behind the spelling of the name of this 'riddim'.

The songs were produced by District 6 Recording and are presented here for your listening pleasure. Please feel free to use the comment feature of this posting to leave your remarks.

The 'riddim' takes flight with Flipo with a song titled 'Hands Up' that is all about the party scene and, you guessed it, wining in the party. The next song on the riddim list is 'Wine Up' by Tammy Dillon; my previous posting had something to say about the wining theme of the song. Song number three is titled 'Wine and Roll' and must have taken a hint form Fayann's 'Drop on the ground and roll' themed song. However, this one, even though it deals with bumper and wining, will get a pass because it was not all about the wining... the singer used some Spanish words to talk about his Spanish Senorita - this one gets a pass! Finally the last song on the riddim... 'On The Road'; I liked the title of the song when I looked at the listing of songs on the riddim.  So what do I think of the song? Well it felt a little too laid back.. seemed like the artist tried to be too smooth. This one may do better in a club scene than in a Carnival fete. I like it for my ipod and for driving on the highway - nice!

I don't want anyone to think that I don't like the music because that is not the case... the riddim is a nice one! I just think that even though it is music written and produced for Carnival it does not always have to be about wining on someone else. Yes I know that is what takes place on Carnival day and in the fetes but these music producers have to start thinking about the international audience and produce music that is not festival oriented. They need to produce music that will fit into any season or time of year yet still have the appeal for the Carnival season. That can only be done through creative writing of the lyrics. The music on this riddim is nice but may not do well for carnival or on the regional or international scene because it is caught in the middle - a smooth riddim (international appeal) but the lyrics would appeal to the carnival scene but is not hard core enough for the fete crowd. Only time will tell and I could be wrong but this is just how I feel. Please leave your remarks via the comment feature of this posting.
