"Soca On The Street" | Blue Boy

Do you think that the music labeled "Soca" today is really as good as the music from the early eighties? Well the recordings may be of a superior quality (engineering wise) but there is no way that these riddims created on computers can compare to the days when people like Ed Watson and Pelham Goddard (to name two class music arrangers) arranged music for the singers during that period. Somehow even the Soca rhythm sounded better.

Today, just about every release has a different sound but is still labeled as "Soca Music". During the early period one could easily hear the 'Soca rhythm" and it was a beautiful sound indeed. The music was created with musicians in the studio playing traditional instruments. The sound was clean and a beautiful thing to hear even with the pops of the vinyl records on playback.

I am not going to lament the fact that we have lost so much and that the music today is heading in a different direction but I can complain about the fact that we don't have 'live musicians in the studio playing the music'. These computer geniuses may produce several tracks per day but their music does not sound as sweet as the music created by the traditional music instrumentation.

So today I am going back to the year 1984 to feature a track by 'Blue Boy'. Yes that is Super Bluewhose real name is Austin Lyons. The name of the song is "Soca On The Street" and it was arranged by Pehham Goddard. Lord knows we need more singers like Super Blue; he is a brilliant and super singer with a fantastic voice and singing style. Wake up people and go back to the basics! Listen and enjoy... reminisce!
