If in the midst of the Carnival season a song is released on the "Indian Curry Riddim" wouldn't you think of Ravi B or some some other Chutney Music artiste? Well that is not the case for "Only You", a song coming from former MTV Making The Band try out artiste Ja'Shala. She is an American born R&B singer who has performed on the big stage all over the US.
So what is this song really all about? I got the music blast from Julian from Julian Promos and was intrigued with the photo that came with the blast. I looked up information about the singer and was caught off guard with the musical company she has in her resume. Having said that we need to address the song and music.
Ok, this is not a Carnival release. This is not even a Chutney song! So what do we have here? After listening to the track I am of the opinion that this is an R&B effort with a strong Indian drum Rythm driving the melody. I like it; I especially like the end of the song with the drumming closing the track but this is not a Carnival standard regardless from where it came or the market they are attempting to grab hold of... in this case the Soca Carnival market.
