Finally the Parang season got off the ground with a late start to the season on October 30, 2011. The current State of Emergency has forced the Parang Association to rethink and reschedule shows. Now instead to the 9:00 pm start time shows will now be scheduled for Sundays starting at 3:00 pm and will finish at 8:00 pm. Obviously not all of the bands will be able to attend even with the change of hours. Transportation will be an issue and bands that have to travel far will prefer not to participate.
This "Daylight Parang" is just the kind of situation that will prompt a creative Calypsonian to write a composition dealing with this very subject. That is exactly what we got from Irwin Reyes Johnson aka Calypsonian "Scrunter". He is one of our finest bards and came up with some really thoughtful lyrics backed by some sweet Soca Parang music.
