Toco Loco Riddim | Various Artistes | Jamaica/Trinidad & Tobago 2019

Toco Loco... this Riddim features three Jamaicans and three Trinidadians for the EP. My very first listen of this Riddim caused me to pause; I was not about to jump the gun and comment of the songs without paying attention to the lyrics and feeling the vibe.

My initial response, and that of my peers listening with me, was that this feels like an after carnival release... something to 'wind down' with after feting all season (as in relaxing after stress or excitement).

Maybe you may have a different take on the Riddim... please share your thoughts with us and your peers using the comment feature of this post.

Now that was the initial response. However, we want everyone to know that we like the songs on this Riddim! It is obvious that Carnival revelers will focus on the releases by Patrice, Machel, and Kes. We are confident that these songs will 'grow on you'. We especially like Patrice's song and find favor with the releases by Machel and Kes.

Sexin by Konshens
The mix jumps off with the sound of with the cry of a seagull. If people think that you are 'Sexin' just by the way you are dancing then that is some serious one on one mischief on the dance floor. Konshens plays to his fans and they will not be disappointed with this release.

Touch Me by Patrice
It sure feels like Patrice is on every Riddim released to date. Just joking, but here is the most important thing... every song she released to date is so damn good! Patrice brought out her best vocals for "Touch Me". She sounds so damn seductive for "Touch Me". Patrice's feeling and inner soul were exposed through this vocal performance. "Come say it to me like you mean it; we both know that you need it"! She totally brought me into her world... well done Patsy, we love this song!

Wine by Charly Black (aka Tony Mentol/Jamaica)
Awoah... be careful what you wish for! Watch Charly Black on this Riddim! He has a following that is scattered around the World and they eat us anything he releases. Do you remember "Gal You A Party Animal" on the Jambe-An Riddim? That went on to become a monster hit with a Worldwide appeal. It became a diamond sell with over 10,000,000 copies sold worldwide! "We gonna dance till a morning; come, make me dance till a morning, we gonna make love til a morning". Something as simple as that could cause a sell-off for this song.

Toco Loco by Machel Montano (Trinidad & Tobago)
The King of Soca, Machel Montano, his song carries the name of the Riddim. Toco is Machel's sanctuary in Trinidad. It was fitting that his song took the name of the Riddim. Now watch the haters criticize this one early. We feel differently regarding this song. Do you see what I'm seeing? "I am feeling a feeling! Girl I know it's true. I know you feel it too...Girl let me take you to Toco Loco when the sun goes low..." We especially feel that the line, "Girl let me take you to Toco Loco when the sun goes low" will catch on with fans.

Shaku Wine by Demarco (Collin Demar Edwards/Jamaica)
"Shaku wine, shaku wine, shaku wine... watch every gyal know the shaku wine". Well, if you say so Demarco!  Shaku, Shaku is a dance style out of Nigeria using the 'Wobe sound'. Maybe, just maybe, we will see this new dance style in the clubs of Trinidad and Tobago to go along with Demarco's Shaku Wine. Please note, we looked at the dance style and don't think it stands a ghost of a chance for carnival taking into consideration the way Trinis fete with each other.

Nah Let Go by Kes (Kees Dieffenthaler/Trinidad & Tobago)
The pretty face of Trinidad and Tobago's male Soca singers... he has a large following and had 2018 carnival biggest song, "Hello". This is his second music release for 2019 (the first release was 'Dah Wuk'). Saltfish Kes for the ladies and he can't sing a bad song, ever! Regardless of the pressure from the ladies to do good by Kes we have to give our take on the song. "Nah let this go, cyar let this go"; those words will resonate well with the ladies. This is not 'Hello' caliber but it is good enough to keep the fans happy. We give the song our thumbs up.

To conclude, we advise that you don't jump to conclusions early for this Riddim. Initially, we were wondering about these songs but after listening to Patrice we began to warm up to the music... then we paid attention to every song and began to feel good about the success of the song. We believe you will also warm up to the vibe and every song released.
