If you missed last Sunday's segment of the Culture Pot on Wack Radio 90.1 FM we have good news for you. Mr. Kenny Phillips, the CEO of WACK and Dotish Hour co-host (Mr. Desmond was missing in action), was kind enough to share that show with us. We are just one spoke in this process and have taken this opportunity to 'pay it forward'; the music will have you thinking differently about the art of Calypso. Simply put, this show exposed our lack of understanding of the reach of Calypso on the International scene... the question remains, 'What happened, and what can be done to uplift the genre on the World stage once again'?

Note:
Set aside two and one-half hours of time to take in this podcast! Get your drinks, kick back, and enjoy the recorded broadcast as much as those of us who listened to it live!

So Let's Do This:
Calypso is dead, Calypso never really impacted the International market and will never do so! Hold on now, haven't you heard of the Golden Days of Calypso? What if I told you that the first album to sell one million copies in the history of music was a Calypso album? Calypso by Harry Belafonte was that album and that brings us to today's post. The program featured for this post provided some fun but much information about songs many could not recall or name.

Here are some facts to 'whet your Calypso appetite': Louis Farrakhan sang Calypso using the sobriquet "The Charmer". Link to YouTube for songs here: The Charmer Calypso. Maya Angelou sang Calypso. Listen here: Maya Angelou Calypso. Robert Mitchum sang Calypso. Listen here: Robert Mitchum Calypso. Do you realize that none of the singers above are from the Caribbean?  Now you can understand the importance of this musical segment done by Mr. Phillips!

Kenny or KP as he was fondly known decided to 'bring back the good old days of Calypso' but with a  twist. He dug deep into the Calypso archives and played songs that left the listening audience stumped. Today's featured video is a replay of the show that asked the listening audience to name the song and the singer. Are you up to it?
