It is that time of the year again and it that could only mean the Calypso Fiesta is only hours away and slated to take play at Skinner's Park in San Fernando starting at 12:00 noon on Saturday February 02,2013. Forty Calypsonians along with two reserve singers will perform to secure a place in the finals to try and unseat the 2012 defending Monarch Duane O'Connor on 'Terrific' Thursday February 7, 2013.
'Hard hitting' Calypsonian Michael Osouna (Sugar Aloes) spoke to the press during the drawing for positions yesterday and put forth the position that TUCO (Calypso governing body) should increase the finalists competing against the reigning champion from eleven to fourteen. This, he said, should be done because the Calypso competition now has its own show and time management should not be an issue as it was with the Dimanche Gras show.
It should be a very entertaining day when some of the best singers will endeavor to provide performances that would hopefully be 'good enough' to get them to the finals to compete for the $1M first prize. On Saturday the supporting music will be provided by 'Errol Ince & The Music Makers'.
It should be noted that after the calypso semi final competition is finished that the party will continue with a lime/fete that is billed as "The Big Fiesta Jam".
