It is that time again when the competition heats up for one of the best shows for Carnival 2013. The National Calypso Monarch Competition semi final round scheduled to take place at Skinner's Park in San Fernando, Trinidad on Saturday February 2, 2013.
The show has been billed as "Calypso Fiesta" by TUCO (Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organization) and will feature forty (40) Calypsonians with two reserves. The show is scheduled to start at 12:00 noon and will be one of the shows that will be broadcast live via the Internet.

There are two reserve singers on standby in case someone defaults from the competition. The name that surprised me on the list is Lornette Nedd-Reid whose sobriquet is Fya Empress. Fya Empress now resides i Tobago; she is also the reigning Calypso Monarch of St. Vincent! I am unaware that she is now a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and can legitimately participate in this competition. Now don't get me wrong, I love to listen to Fya Empress sing and her song "Painter Of Images" is an excellent song. She would be an asset to the show and will create problems for many hoping to cement a position in the finals. I would love to see her participate but we will have to wait and see what happens on the day of the show.
