Doh Hold Back | Kadija | Trinidad Carnival 2013

Trinidad and Tobago's future is intact with our young and talented artists taking up the mantle to produce new and innovative music. Today Trinizagada is pleased to feature the latest offering from a young lady whose is known as Kadija. The name of her song is "Doh Hold Back". The future is here and the talent is young, vibrant and  very energetic - can you handle it?  This vibe may take you by surprise but its success depends on you!

This is music that can be called Soca with lots of soul. Did you get the soul influence in her vibe? Well if you take a look at her Myspace web page you will see that she states her musical influence are as follows: Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Ciara and Christina Milian. Now don't get thrown off because you did not see a local female artiste name on the list because I am absolutely certain that she has her eyes on people like Destra, Fayann, Terri and even Saucy. If she does not then success in Trinidad will not be easily achieved.

The music was produced by Kyle Peters of 'Soul Faculty Productions' and having said that one can now see the picture framed in that context (soul element).

So what do I think about the song. Well first of all I was beaten down in the WACK Shout-box (chat box) by a fan who insisted that I post the song. The problem is that I did not have a copy of the track. Secondly I like my people in the WACK shout-box and promised 'Funstar' that I will post the song. I will be bluntly honest about this song all the same, I have to be...

The vibe is different and the music is taking a different direction in Trinidad so she is in a good place. How long it will take for people to accept the change, the new vibe is questionable. People like traditional music or music that stays close to what is considered acceptable. Here is the big question... as a Carnival person, do you see yourself feting to this song or would it fit in better in a 'club' scenario? Club right...

Lyrics:
These are Carnival lyric. The writer did a good job capturing the elements of the fete/carnival scene with the lyrics. OK, that is a plus.

Vocals:
This young lady has great potential and it will take some time for her style to be accepted. In other words she has to pay her dues in this very unforgiving industry. She has to get past the likes of Destra, Fayann, Terri and Patrice... they are the market leaders and she will have to go head to head with them to make her mark.

Music:
Now this is the 'make it or break it' theme for this song, not the singer, but the song. This is not a typical Carnival vibe. This is not a typical fete song. This is a Club song. This is a club banger. The people will have the final say and DJ's may not play this one in a fete scene with people drinking and dancing in a frenetic style. This song is too much on the soulful side to 'wreck ah fete'.

Replay Worthiness/Lasting Appeal:
Now here is the thing... radio play will be difficult for this song. If this was done by Destra it would have been different. She is not a know 'commodity', she is not a big name singer but she can sing really good. Her time will come and she will be heard! I expect that with some good promotion that this song should be heard after the carnival is long gone. She will have to work hard and her manager will have to do the leg work. She can sing and I wish her all the best!
