Machel Montano was severely criticized last night in the WIDACA broadcast from the Brooklyn Museum via the TCN network Chat-Box. The conversations could only carry one label, "Crabs in ah Barrel" but their ire was all focused on Trinidadian Machel Montano!
Last night I was up with my friends chatting in the WACK shout box waiting for the Machel Montano and HD crew performances. When Machel's session started the crowd went crazy but he stopped the proceedings so that some children, who were in the crowd, could be moved to the side and out of harm's way as the crowd started to surge forward. The free video feed came compliments of TCN network and WIADCA. Now when Machel appeared the TCN chat box lit up and it was a firestorm of haters taking shots at Machel - The King of Soca Music bar none.
It was amazing that they spent so much time taking in the show just to be critical of the man. Machel has a list of songs that is envied by many. There isn't a Soca artist out there with as much music and music hits as Machel and the HD crew! Yet still they spent precious time hurling insults at the man as he bathed the audience with hit after hit after hit! Machel boss of all bar none (this will be repeated several times).
Machel, Farmer Nappy, Patrice and Zan all 'danced and dingolayed' and performed hits from the past and their latest releases. They gave it all and more. Yet still it was not enough. The haters questioned his weight, "the boi cyar wine", "look he tired", "this is a tired performance", "nobody getting this performance, it is lack-luster", "Machel cyar perform again", "this is robbery yuh mean people pay to see this!" And so it went on all night... However, they remained watching and listening while casting insults at the undisputed king of Soca Music!
There were those who could not take the insults and managed to say a few words indicating that Machel was doing his music and not music done by others to fill up the time slot. He did a few songs like Sparrow's Congo Man and Benjai's Trini much to the delight of the crowd. However, everything else was HD's. Someone kept posting 'hitzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' after 'hitzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' after 'hitzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' to emphasize the fact that Machel Montano is King for Soca Music in the World. No other Caribbean Soca Artist can boast of the number of hits and awards won by this superb Trinidadian artist.
Machel should simply keep 'taking advantage' and remain on top of his game! As much as they will continue hating there is as saying in Trinidad and Tobago that simply states: "Who vex... Damn well loss!"
